Kathon CG
Kathon CG is a preservative consisting of two ingredients: methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone. If either or both of these ingredients are listed on the INCI list, the product contains Kathon CG. Together known as Kathon CG, these ingredients are often used in rinse-off products such as shampoo. But Kathon CG is also used in other products, including make-up.
Although both ingredients are permitted in cosmetics, it has become clear that people with very sensitive skin can react negatively to them when they are used in a product that stays on the skin and isn't rinsed off straight away. Of everyone with a contact allergy, 1.7% reacts negatively to Kathon CG — making it an ingredient that triggers a negative skin reaction in a very small group.
